Pentax K-Mount Lenses for AK_49_Photo Customers

Welcome to my inventory of great K-mount (-M, -A & -AF) lenses that will work great with your new Pentax (film or digital SLR (DSLR) camera (or any other camera that accepts K-mount lenses like Ricoh, Sears and even Samsung GX DSLRs).

o $30 Pentax-M 50mm f2.0
o $40 Pentax-M 50mm f1.8
o $120 Pentax-M 40mm f2.8 pancake--famous for great IQ in a very compact package!
o $65--Pentax-M 135mm f3.5
o $50--Pentax-M 40-80mm f2.8

o $75--Sears-M 135mm f2.5--fast! Just because Sears sold under their brand--the lenses have a great reputation
o $25--Focal-M 28mm f2.8

o $50 Pentax-A 50mm f2.0
o $100 Sigma-A 28-80mm f3.5
o $115--Tokina-A 70-210mm f4--this is a fantastic lens--it was primary on my K20D most of the winter
o $25--Five Star-A 75-200mm f4.5

o $90--Sigma 35-105mm f3.5

o $130--Sigma-FA 70-210mm f4 (won't autofocus on these manual cameras)

I have successfully used all of these lenses on my Pentax K20D digital SLR. The manual lenses (-M) work just fine using the magic green button for metering. The -A lenses communicate fully with the camera.

Note: K1000 owners can most economically add to their lens kit by purchasing -M (manual) lenses. While these manual lenses will work great on any more modern camera (film or digital), they only can be used in manual mode. Pentax-A lenses communicate with the camera and allow use of automated modes (Program, AV (Aperture-Priority), TV (Speed Priority), etc.). If you have or think you might acquire a more modern camera, you might want to focus (excuse the pun) on the A lenses.

I also have several FD-mount lenses that are available:
$65--Canon 70-210mm f/4 macro zoom (condition: 9)--Ebay Buy It Now $129.99
I just tested this lens with my FD to EOS adapter on my Canon 350D and the results were quite acceptable (even in the weak light of our recent cloudy days!)--see samples at this link.

Update: FD to EOS adapter: I have been experimenting with a $35 adapter to use FD lenses on EOS bodies (film or digital). While reviewers say there is "some" loss of IQ--I am finding I am getting a lot of decent shots (on Canon 350D DSLR). Given the low prices of FD lenses, I think you should see for yourself.

I have several great Tamron Adaptall-2 lenses (both prime & zoom) that work in manual mode on this camera with a simple, inexpensive lens adapter. If you are looking for "Image Quality", this older glass is a very economical way to go. See my inventory here.

Canon FD Lens on Canon DSLR--Test Results Are In

I found a Sigma 200mm f3.5 lens awhile back and decided to give it a go on the 350D using my FD to EOS adapter. This lens equates to about 300mm and my closest focus distance is less than three feet.

The results are very encouraging--see for yourself at the link below. Once I got used to the manual setting of shutter speed & aperture while watching the 350D exposure meter in the viewfinder, I started getting great results.

FD-EOS Sigma Results

I can't wait to try out my Canon FD extension tubes and tele-extender (both of which are for sale).

It is not hard--it is exactly how most photographers took pictures starting in the 60's with the advent of built-in exposure meters.

Of course, I wouldn't be bothering if it weren't for this great vintage glass that can be had at a steep discount. Since camera companies and the media they support with their advertising are all about the new stuff, you aren't going to hear much about this. So take advantage of what other people don't know, you can get great glass & great IQ without spending a bunch of money. Save your money for what is really important to your photography--glass, not glass holders with lots of superfluous electronics and menus that stand between you and getting great results. Glass holders lose value at a very fast rate--good glass holds its value.

My recommendation--get good glass that you can use on a classic film camera like the AE-1 Program and with an adapter on a DSLR. With the 6-8mp DSLR price drops--you capture some great images without having to take out a loan!

Another thing about using these lenses on a DSLR. Because of the smaller image capture area on the sensor, the light is being captured from the sweet, central portion of the lens. See more about this below:

Olympus Pen FT w/two stellar lenses--$???

Mint Condition Olympus Pen FT w/fast H.Zuiko Auto-S 42mm f1:1.2 (very fast!) lens and E.Zuiko Auto-T 150mm f4 telephoto lens, original camera & lens cases, original front & back lens caps

Pen FT
"..The Pen FV/FT was a technological tour-de-force. Olympus Pen lenses, by virtue of their short focal lengths (for half-frame), had greater depth of field and ultra-high resolving power (many lenses topped 80 lp/mm at multiple apertures).

...Pen F normal (like the 42mm) lenses focus to about a foot"

This is related to why many people get such great shots with their P&S--good depth of field. Imagine coupling greater depth of field with ultra-high resolving power (In a 3600dpi negative scan, the Pen's 17.5x24mm format still delivers close to 22 megapixels of resolution (equivalent in the digital world, where it is three pixels to each image file pixel, to 66 megapixels).

Pentax K-mount Lenses on Canon EOS Body--YES!

First results are in--Adapter for Pentax K-mount lenses on EOS bodies (digital or film)--works great!!
$14..99 (free shipping) Pentax-PK-Canon-EOS-Mount-Adapter. For 15 bucks you can add the universe of Pentax K-mount lenses to your Canon! Ask around, you probably have a friend or relative who has a K-mount lens to try this out. If you can't beg, borrow or steal one, I have a few for sale (see below).

The following two were taken with the classic SMC Pentax-M 50mm f1/7 (hand-held).

The third photo was taken using Pentax-M 40mm f2.8 on a Canon Rebel XT (350D). Manual mode & manual focus (of course). Just use the camera's meter to select an appropriate aperture & shutter speed. Since f2.8 is not very fast, I had to open up the lens and shoot with relatively slow shutter speeds. However, I got some good portraits.

See this post for list of Pentax lenses

Because EF-mount lenses work on Canon DSLRs, lenses other than the kit lenses are not sitting around going unused.

Here is my EOS inventory:

Minolta MC/MD Lenses on Olympus DSLRs

I started finding great old Minolta glass (see list below) and I would be happy to sell it to you with either an early SRT 101 or later X-700. My friend Jay shoots an Olympus DSLR and I found out about: Using Minolta lenses on Olympus 4/3 DSLRs. The gist of the article is that using an adapter opens up a whole world of great glass to Olympus DSLR owners. Heck, I am thinking about picking up a used Olympus DLSR body--anybody want to trade a body for some combination of glass & cash?

I just got a less-expensive version of the adapter for $18 and I am anxious for Jay to try it out. I will let you know what he thinks (and whether he wants to buy it or if I can offer it to you).

Minolta MC/MD Lenses:

$89 Minolta Prime MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f1.4--legendary fast glass!

$100 Vivitar Series 1 (MD-mount), 70-210mm f2.8-4.0 Macro Focusing Zoom (condition: 9+) w/ padded case. This is the renowned version 3 of this series (made by Komine). "The 70-210 Series 1 is a great lens for hiking and backpacking. It's light, reasonably fast and replaces several other lenses, not the least of which is a dedicated macro lens. The 1:2.5 ratio of the Vivitar is often good enough for flower and plant "macro" photography."

$49 Minolta MD Rokkor-X, 50mm f1.7 (condition: 9) w/lens case

Nikon DSLR On Sale Now

While I haven't gotten into trading DSLR bodies, yet, compare the following deal from Adorama with similiar DSLRs offered locally on Craigslist/Alaska's List $399--Nikon D3000 10.2 MP DSLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G ED AF-S DX VR Lens - Refurbished by Nikon U.S.A.

I have a great lens that would go with this DSLR--Sigma 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 APO Macro Super. Sigma 70-300mm f4.0-5.6 APO Macro Super. Better yet, this lens is future-proofed--it will work on your full-frame Nikon (when you get it). I have tested it on my Pentax K20D with a Nikon/PK adapter. Pentax makes it easy to use non-Pentax mount lenses with readily available adapters.

My regular price for this outstanding Nikon-mount lens is $189. During my summer clearance sale, knock 15% off--$160.50 !!!

Mamiya/Sekor 1000 DTL w/M42 lenses

$49 OBO

Nice Mamiya 1000 DTL with two M42 (screw-mount) lenses. Light meter works with new battery. Includes roll of film and a camera bag.

Lenses:
The best M42 lenses to use have A(uto)/M(anual) switch which allows control of the aperture on other cameras. Otherwise, the lens remains wide open. This is usually OK for macro work where you need lots of light but your DOF will be smaller.

Mamiya/Sekor 55mm f1.8 w/AM switch
Hanimar 135mm f2.8 wo/AM switch

These M42 lenses can be used on your film/digital SLR. I am using one on my Canon and my Pentax K20D. The best M42 lenses to use on are those with the A(uto)/M(anual) switch which allows control of the aperture. Otherwise, the lens remains wide open. This is usually OK for macro work where you need lots of light but your DOF will be smaller.

Minolta SR-T 101 w/lenses, flash & camera case (all in excellent condition)

The fast prime can be used on your other film/digital SLRs with the right adapter. For example, $18 for Minolta MC/MD to Olympus 4/3 Adapter.

There is an SR-T 101 selling right now on Ebay w/slower f1.7 lens for $120 + S&H. These cameras were built to last and there is lots of life left in it for those willing to slow down and work with film.

This camera is in GREAT SHAPE (CONDITION: 8+). If you go over it very carefully you will find two or three very minor handling marks but the OVERALL CONDITION IS FANTASTIC! It is fully functional--it works!

Description & Pictures

This is a manual SLR--the battery is there just to power the light meter. If the battery fails, you can continue taking excellent photos. That's why this model has been used by many a photographer as their backup camera. It's a real workhorse.

The following is included:

* SR-T 101 35 MM SLR Camera body

Experiment - Replication of CraigsList & AlaskaList Cameras

I am hoping to make this experiment work--it will only work if I can reach a certain volume of sales. As I find the time, I will include Craig's List and Alaska List items for similar cameras. I do this because with no advertising budget (mostly labor of love), I need to have folks interested in old cameras to come check out what I have.

If the Craig's or Alaska List camera sells for less than mine, so be it--may the lowest price win! If it sells for less than mine, make me an offer--no reasonable offers refused. If the other camera is sold by the time you check on it, I hope you come back here and consider what I have to offer at very fair, below-market prices.

Classic K1000 firm including lens, camera bag, new battery, external flash & roll of film.

Other Pentax options are Spotomatic (M42 lens or M42 lens adapter), MV, ME & ME-Super. If you want to get into K-mount cameras for a little less--I have s very clean Ricoh KR-10 film SLR that are very similar to the ME-Super.

It introduced an enhanced version of the 3-zone eye-controlled autofocus system that was first seen on the EOS 5 camera. It was also the first camera to implement Canon's E-TTL flash system. Canon's previous TTL system metered light reflected from the film onto a sensor during the actual exposure. E-TTL on the other hand fires a low-intensity pre-flash before exposure, and meters the reflected light through the camera's normal metering system.

Sales began in September 1995, and ended after the introduction of the replacement model, the Elan 7 (EOS 30) in October 2000.

Vivitar Series 1 (MD-mount) 70-210mm fast f2.8-4.0 Macro Focusing Zoom

$100 OBO
Vivitar Series 1 (MD-mount), 70-210mm f2.8-4.0 Macro Focusing Zoom (condition: 9+) w/ padded case.

Minolta X-700 MPS Camera--Complete Outfit (now incl. Fast Prime 58mm f1.4)

X-700 (MD-mount) Complete Outfit--two lenses, flash & camera bag. Now w/fast Minolta MC Rokkor-PF Prime 58mm f1.4 The X-700 was the top of the line MC/MD-mount camera that was sold until the year 2000. The one I am selling must be of the latter vintage since it is in such good condition. More details about the X-700

Update--I just shot a roll of Kodak 200 and every shot came out perfectly exposed--the camera works beautifully and is a joy to hold. The 58mm f1.4 lens gives stellar results. I just ordered a film winder for it to complete the package.

Why buy a Minolta film SLR? They are great cameras, however, the lenses cannot be used on digital cameras without using adapters (more on this here). Therefore, these Minolta SLRs are somewhat orphaned. What that means for you is premium gear at a big discount "there is a huge amount of older SR, MC and MD glass out there, some of it fairly new. No wonder there is so much interest in using these great old lenses."

Famed Minolta X-700 MPS Film SLR (condition: 8+ some brassing on two corners). Includes:
o Minolta Prime MC Rokkor-PF 58mm f1.4--legendary fast glass!
o Sigma Zoom Master 35-70mm f2.8-3.5 (condition 9+)
o Minolta Auto 360PX flash w/case & original manual

Must be seen to be appreciated. Includes copy of X-700 user manual, new battery, roll of film and choice of camera cases. See optional Minolta mount lens below.

• Program, Aperture Priority and Manual exposure control
• Simple control layout - easy to use
• TTL Flash metering
• Compatibility with the vast array of Minolta MD-mount lenses

The ultra-successful Minolta X-700 is a manual focus system camera with the option of full Program exposure control. Offering Aperture Priority automatic exposure as well as manual, the X-700 is a slick, compact package with simple, easy-to-understand controls. TTL (Through-The-Lens) flash metering with included TTL dedicated flash 360PX. The X-700 is fully compatible with any Minolta MD mount lens. Lenses with the Minolta MC mount can still be used but in Aperture Priority or manual modes only (not in Program).

Optional Lenses:

AE-1 Program review

AE-1 Program--Amazon--only one bare bones for <$100

Update: FD to EOS adapter: I have been experimenting with a $35 adapter to use FD lenses on EOS bodies (film or digital). While reviewers say there is "some" loss of IQ--I am finding I am getting a lot of decent shots (on Canon 350D DSLR). Given the low prices of FD lenses, I think you should see for yourself.
